Hi @laurenzekeking, the domain connection feature comes with all of our paid plans. Paid upgrades help us keep our free sites free. You would need at least the Personal plan to connect a domain. It comes with other features too:
https://wordpress.com/personalIf you definitely do not want a plan, one option is to redirect the domain to your wordpress.com address. If you opt for that, I’d recommend against using “stealth” or “framed” forwarding, as that can make it hard for people to bookmark or link to pages on your site.
Hoping this helps!

That sounds complicated, I just want to pay $13 like I did last year, is that no longer an option?

It isn’t currently — we actually haven’t offered that for several years, but people who had existing upgrades were allowed to keep them.
The personal hosting plan comes with a lot of other features — ads removed, options to accept payments, etc. You also get SSL, maintenance, security, and direct support.
Or if you’re comfortable with the tech aspects of managing your own copy of WordPress with another host, the software itself is free. You’d just need to buy your own hosting too.
