Hi there,
The domain connection on our account allows you to connect a domain you already own (with a different company) to your WordPress.com site here so you can redirect traffic to it. For example if you had a site at kristinasarec.com that you are shutting down, and you want to redirect folks to your new address at kristinasarec.wordpress.com, this domain connection upgrade is what you would need to do it.
However, I’ve taken a closer look and I don’t see that kristinasarec.com is currently registered. Did you decide to let the domain go at some point? You can register it here under your WordPress.com account so that you are the owner again. A free domain is included in any of our plans (if you choose the yearly option) and this will allow you to register the domain, set it as your custom site address, turn off the ads we show on free sites, etc.
Additionally a domain connection is included in the plan, so if you opt to upgrade to one of our plans, let us know and we’re happy to credit you the domain connection fee you paid recently.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
