domain controls no longer available
-
So I purchased a domain (jaldrich.net) on GoDaddy several years ago (2010), and then used Domain Mapping to map my wordpress blog to that domain. I used it just fine for a couple of years, and then decided to update my site and use a squarespace template.
When I tried to move the domain over to the squarespace site, SS didn’t see the domain as being controlled by WP (or GoDaddy, for that matter, which doesn’t show the domain in ‘My Domains’ on my account). I then (probably pretty stupidly) deleted the ‘jaldrich.net’ site from WP, which now of course no longer recognizes that as a working domain, and wants me to pay for domain mapping (which I re-upped for the year in June) again, which I’m a little reticent to do.
I can’t find the domain at all at this point in terms of ownership to point the SS domain mapping tool towards the domain to be able to get my site back up and running. What to do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
That domain is registered with GoDaddy, but its name servers are still pointing to WordPress.com. You’ll need to point those back to GoDaddy and then add the A- and CNAME records you need to connect to Squarespace on GoDaddy’s end. That will point the domain to Squarespace. GoDaddy support should be able to help you with all of that.
Removing the mapping upgrade here with us is not a mistake. It removes the domain from your account with us, but as you are pointing the domain somewhere else you should have done that in any case, as that mapping upgrade only serves a useful function if the domain is pointed to us.
I can add the mapping back for you if you want the domain to still show your WordPress.com site until you point it to Squarespace, but to point it to Squarespace you need to make the required changes with GoDaddy.
Let me know if any of this is unclear.

Hi Kokkieh — thanks for the reply. I’ll check in with GoDaddy Support and see if they can assist in pointing the domain over to SS. My account listing with them doesn’t show my domain at all, but getting Support involved should clear that up. Don’t worry about restoring the mapping just yet — I’m hoping I can get it sorted fairly quickly, and it’s not crucial. Thanks and I’ll check back in if I can’t get it sorted.
Thanks!

Hi Kokkieh — OK, so GoDaddy Support indicated that they needed the CNAME server pointed back at them in order to be able to assist me with the SS changeover, and that WP had control over the CNAME addressing. Is that something that you can help me with? The CNAME controls for jaldrich.net no longer appear in my WP control panel.

We have no control left at all over your domain. The domain is still pointing to us, but that is due to a setting that is controlled on GoDaddy’s side. The name servers, not a CNAME, need to be changed on their end, as only they control that particular setting.
Please tell their support exactly this:
I previously had my domain, jaldrich.net, mapped to a site hosted on WordPress.com. This was done by changing the domain’s name server records to WordPress.com.
I am now mapping the domain to a site hosted on Squarespace, so I need you to please reset the name server records to GoDaddy’s and help me to add the A-records and CNAME records required by Squarespace.
You can include this link for them to Squarespace’s instructions for what records need to be added.
https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205812378
If you’re feeling up to doing it yourself you can also try resetting the name servers using GoDaddy’s instructions here:
You should also be able to add the A- and CNAME records yourself inside GoDaddy’s dashboard. It should be in more or less the same area where you set the name servers.
