I really was looking for WordPress support…. but this seems to be the only option? I created a premium account and domain with WordPress tonight, but then decided in the same night I needed to start with Bluehost, who also offers a free domain name for the first year. I know there was a warning when I was canceling my WordPress account, but I was hoping there would not be an issue re-registering my domain in the same night since it was only live for a short period of time. That was clearly a mistake. I am wondering if I should wait a few days and this will clear for use with Bluehost or if I can buy back the domain for the $18 and just transfer over – I would like to not have to pay since both sites offered it free for a year. It was my mistake – new to the blog process. Its been a few years and a lot has changed with blogs from when I first was blogging in 2013. Frustrated!

New domains, when canceled, are usually released within 5 days so you will probably want to wait and re-register the domain directly with Bluehost.
Another option would be, as you said, paying the registration fee so that we can restore the domain for you. After that, however, you will only be able to point it to the self-hosted site as new domains can only be transferred after 60 days (this is a lock by ICANN, not a WordPress.com thing).
So, if you’re looking to get the domain for free with Bluehost I think the best thing for you would be to wait until the domain is released but let me know if you decide otherwise and I’ll send you a link where you’ll be able to pay for the registration. -
