Domain Deletion – Pictures with Affiliate Links
-
I was going over WordPress.com terms of service and also heard from a case study that they will delete domains that have pictures connected to affiliate links. I have a lot of articles scheduled to go out (the first one on 07/28) and many of them show banners, but they are NOT real banners and advertisements just .GIFs.
I don’t want my domain deleted. I have .GIF pictures that look like advertisements but they are not Google Adsense or anything like that. The pictures do NOT connect to affiliate websites and all the .GIF pictures have a custom link directed to a certain page in my blog.
Do you think my domain will be deleted anyway?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If they look like ads, why would they not be ads? If they are advertising for a third-party commercial product or service, they’re not allowed here. Please give us the URL of one such image so we can look at it and see if it’s an ad or not.
Where the link goes does not matter as much as whether or not the image is an ad. If it’s an ad you neglected to get paid for, that’s not relevant to whether it’s against the ToS.

A quick review of your site makes me think you are probably skirting the terms of service in regards to affiliate marketing already, but I’ll tag this thread for staff assistance so you can get an official ruling.

Sorry my computer dragging like crazy. Please just give me a chance to remove all the pages and affiliate links. I’ll move everything over to my website only.
If I decide to create a WordPress.org site, the terms of service are different correct? I would be able to list whatever I want on it?
-
WordPress.org has no restrictions on affiliate marketing so you are welcome to put whatever you’d like on it.

Thank you lizthefair, clearly if I had known that I was doing something wrong I wouldn’t have brought attention to myself. I have removed all of the affiliate links from the blog. I apologize, but I was given bad advice that linking to the affiliate websites was alright to do, but was told not to add in advertisements and banners. I know now that both are bad and I will abide by the rules. (if raincoaster doesn’t delete my account).
=/ -
Well, that’s not exactly correct. Web hosts all have terms of service, so where you move the site to will have its own set of rules. WordPress.org just supplies free software.
-
@raincoaster– of course. I should have been more precise. Most hosts are fine with affiliate marketing, but of course one should do due dilligince.
@cowadm4 raincoaster and I are both volunteers. Neither of us are in a position to delete your account.
-
Okay, it was just a bad joke anyway. I think that big eyeball that raincoaster has as an avatar is just really freaking me out. like big brother watching or something!
let’s just end this conversation here before I get off topic. Thank you both for your assistance!

We do not discuss Terms of Service violations in the public support forums.
Please note that affiliate links are permissible if they are included in the context of a blog post and are not the majority of content on a site.
We do not allow outside advertisements, nor do we allow sites that include “unethical or unwanted commercial content designed to drive traffic to third party sites or boost the search engine rankings of third party sites”.
