Domain DNS/’A’ Record Query

  Hello, my husband also owns a WordPress site and has been asked by GoDaddy to provide an ip address so that the A record can be updated – something to do with the domain DNS? Can you please tell me how we would find this information? Many thanks.

  The site I need help with is educatingsausages.wordpress.com.

  Hi Lucy,

  Pointing a domain by providing an IP for an A record is a common way to connect a domain to an existing website.

  In WordPress.com, IPs tend to change frequently, which would leave your connection broken when this happens. Instead, I recommend connecting your husband’s domain through a change in your domain’s name servers.

  It consists of 2 main steps:

  1. Attaching your domain to your WordPress.com site.
  2. Updating your domain’s name servers to point to WordPress.com.

  By connecting your husband’s domain this way, your connection will be more stable than connecting it through an IP address.
