Domain DNS Mapping
-
Help, I have been trying to link a domain I bought in Domain Pal on here and have no luck. The walkthrough says it is free, but WordPress is asking me to pay. i think it is registering it as it not being owned when it is due to different emails owning each site.

Ah, I just saw your other topic. Yes, the domain mapping is free with a paid site plan. I’d recommend Personal if you don’t need our other features:
https://wordpress.com/pricingAll of our paid plans include hosting, SSL, security, maintenance, WordPress support, and a bunch of other features that cost extra if you opt to install your copy of WordPress elsewhere, though you are welcome to do that too.
Once you’ve mapped the domain, rather than using IPs, you’d point the domain to our name servers:
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.comAnd within a few hours (just long enough for the internet to recognize the changes) your new site will be live.
Hoping this helps!

Ok, so what is the difference between transferring your domain to WP and mapping the domain? BC it looks like you have to pay either way if that’s the case. Which one is price pointed better?

Mapping or transferring requires a paid plan.

Note that you need to have owned a domain for at least 60 days before you can transfer it here (or anywhere else for that matter). -
Hello there,
Happy to help you with this.
A domain transfer is when the domain registrar changes from one party to another. For example, from GoDaddy to WordPress.com.
Domain mapping is when the domain registrar stays the same, but the domain is pointing toward WordPress.com via custom DNS settings.

I hope this helps.
