domain doubts

hi,
i have a blog in wordpress. its url is http://lakshmanan.wordpress.com . i have read some of the topics in the forum. i am having a decent amount of traffic to my blog everyday. i want to make money out of this traffic. people say that i have to go for a hosting to do so.
ok. agreed. but
1. if i go to a host what are the advantages (other than running ads)i will be having. i dont understand this. i already have a place to host i.e wordpress.com why should i go to different host to host my site.
2. about my domain…. i have a domain name now. if i register a new domain like http://www.myname.com, will the current domain be lost. or what ?i am just a beginner…please explain accordingly

1. The advantage of going self-hosted as opposed to free-hosted on wordpress.com is that you are in full control of your blog and its design and content, including ads. The disadvantage is that you must install and regularly update the whole thing yourself. You chose.
2. If you have a domain, you don’t need a new domain. If you think that lakshmanan.wordpress.com already is a domain, then that is wrong. lakshmanan is a subdomain of wordpress.com, owned by wordpress.com, not by you. In order to be self-hosted, you need to register a new domain. You can still have your blog at lakshmanan.wordpress.com, but it would be better to import it to your new domain. -

I am trying to start a blog. My cusor will not type in the domain box. any suggestions ?

Can you try typing there after clicking in the box? It could be that the browser simply is not displaying the cursor.
If it still does not work, please send us a support request.
