Domain Expiration

  Hi!
  I have a website that was built for me and was hosted by wordpress. I did not receive a notification that my domain expired and I cannot log into the back end of my site/ re-activate my domain.

  How can I transfer my domain to wordpress? I do not know what the builder used and can no-longer contact them

  We definitely have no record of that site in our system, which means it was a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

  Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.   Your only option here would be to contact your former hosting provider, which as far as I can tell was https://www.hostgator.com/help , to ask if they still have a backup of your site.
