Domain Expiration – Domain up for sale

  • Unknown's avatar

I need more information about the expiration of my domain name curvy-canadian.com. I am still using this domain name, and it appears as though it has expired and been placed back on the market. I am within my 90 day redemption period, and want to re-register it. I need to get this domain back immediately. I was not adequately notified about the expiration of this domain by wordpress, and I am very disappointed in the service. How do I go about re-registering the domain?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

That domain expired on 28 August and has been completely removed from our account and released by the registrar already. Additionally, it appears that someone else has now registered that domain, so it is no longer available:

    https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=curvy-canadian.com

The domain was removed from your account on 5 October, so has been offline for more than a month.

I am within my 90 day redemption period,

The redemption period is not a period during which you have an exclusive right to get the domain back. The Redemption period is a period while it might still be possible to get a domain back at an additional fee, but only if the registrar does not sell it at private auction before you try to recover it. Once the domain enters redemption it is already out of our control and we can only get it back if we manually request the registrar to restore it.

In this case the redemption period has already passed, and neither us nor our registrar controls that domain any more.

I was not adequately notified about the expiration of this domain by wordpress

We sent you several emails to warn of the domain’s upcoming expiration. The first of these emails was sent on 24 May. They were sent to the hotmail address on record for your account appearing here:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account/

If you did not receive those emails you will need to take it up with your email provider.

You can always try contacting the current owner via the contact details appearing at that link and try to buy it back from them, but we are not able to assist in that.

Well, this is truly unfortunate. Where have all of my blog posts gone? How do I retrieve them?

  • Do you remember who was hosting your site? It looks like it might have been GoDaddy.com. Does that ring any bells?

As long as your hosting account with them did not also expire, your content should still be with them. If so, you can either register/connect a new domain to them, or you can ask them to give you an export file of your content.

Failing that, you might be able to recover your content via the Wayback Machine. That’s a site that periodically makes copies of public websites to preserve them over time. You won’t be able to make an export from there, but copy-pasting from there is better than your content being lost forever.
