Domain expiration help

  I have posted about this domain previously, but I would like to figure out, if possible, when the domain ubaltlawreview.org expires so I may purchase it back?

  As some background, the domain was registered by a user who is no longer affiliated with our organization and cannot seem to renew it, so our only option is to buy this domain back once it becomes available. Thanks so much!

  Hi there,

  It looks like that domain entered redemption at our registrar on 2 January. Redemption usually lasts about 40 days, after which the domain should be released. I can’t give you an exact date, as we don’t control this process.

  However, I can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to register it when it is released. If, for example, someone has the domain on back-order at another registrar, they will get it the moment it’s released. This is a common tactic domain squatters use to get hold of expired domains and then sell them back at a profit to the original owner.

  So waiting it out is risky.

  A safer option would be for the original owner, aminberrah, to contact us and request that we recover the domain from redemption. Our registrar charges a $80 fee for this. Once the domain is restored, they can then transfer ownership of the domain to you instead.

  If aminberrah can still log into their WordPress.com account, they can reply in this thread to confirm and I can get the recovery process started. Given the current point in the redemption process our time to get it back is limited, though.
