Domain Expiration & Move

    My domain was purchased through WordPress and expired last month. I now manage my website through another service, and would like to move my domain to that service. Since it has expired, I see no way of doing that within domain settings.

    Also, the domain still shows as taken when checking that service, WordPress or others (like a GoDaddy).

    Hi there,

    Domain expiration is a fairly long process, lasting as long as 90 days with most registrars. Your domain won’t be available to buy somewhere else until that process completes.

    At the moment your domain is in the phase known as redemption. During this phase the registrar is preparing to permanently delete the domain which will make it publicly available again. But during this phase they also put the domain up for sale at private auction. Should someone buy the domain at auction during this phase it won’t be released and you won’t be able to register it again.

    Domain Expiration

    If you still wanted to use the domain it would have been better to renew it and then transfer it to another registrar. That way you would have remained the owner of the domain. But as it is, you gave up ownership the moment you let the domain expire, so the registrar can now do whatever they want to with the domain.

    I can try to recover the domain for you if you don’t want to wait for the expiration process to complete, but our registrar charges an $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption, so I’d need you to agree to that before I can start a recovery.

    Thanks for the response.

    It seems like I have passed the 46 days that some registrars list as redeemable time frame before a domain goes to auction. Is there a way to tell if/when my domain would go through auction or when it would be available if it is not purchased at auction?

    If this is not the case and the domain is redeemable, then yes, I would be willing to pay the $80 fee for domain recovery.

    Your domain only entered in to Redemption on 16 October, so it’s at least another 30 – 40 days before it will enter the Pending Delete status which means the registrar is about to release it. During the Redemption phase the registrar can try to auction it off, so that process is currently busy, but the domain hasn’t been bought at auction yet so we should still be able to get it back.

    I have sent you a link you can use to pay for redemption and renewal. Once we receive payment I can contact our registrar to restore the domain. If the recovery fails you will be refunded in full.
