Domain expired

WordPress is saying our domain has expired but it hasn’t… Has anyone else had this happen to them?!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Please can anyone help us? Our website is still down and our customers and community members cannot get the information they need.
Thank you

So, the wording of that alert is less than optimal. It is not the domain that has expired, but the domain mapping upgrade.
Domain Mapping is the upgrade you would purchase if you wanted to use a domain registered elsewhere (GoDaddy or 1and1 for example) with your WordPress.com site.

Thank you! How do I sort out the domain mapping please? I’m a bit surprised there were no reminder e-mails alerting us to the fact it was about to expire?
Also, can you advise on how to prevent this happening in the future please? We are losing business and I’m keen that this doesn’t happen again!
Many thanks, Anna

The issue is that the WordPress.com user account that you are posting from is not the owner of that upgrade.
Typically this happens because you ended up with a second WordPress.com user account at some point and THAT account is the one that was used to purchase the upgrade. You will need to log into that second account in order to renew the upgrade.
The owner is one of the administrators listed here: https://deancourtcc.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php

Is there any way of transferring the upgrade to our user account please? I don’t know how this happened but it’s not tenable to go forward with our domain mapping linked to the kind community member who helped us set up our website! He must have accidentally purchased it on his own account. Can he release it in some way so that we can map it ourselves?
Many thanks for your help,
Anna -
Yes, if you can ask him to post to this thread, or email to help@wordpress.com making the request, it can be transferred.
-
Alternately, he can ask for it to be canceled (or use these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/#canceling-and-refunding-purchases ) and it can then be repurchased with a more permanent admin account.

Hi Rootjosh – I was the original admin who purchased the domain mapping – if the right to do this could be transferred to deancourtcc that would be appreciated
thank you

You should now be able to renew the Domain Mapping. Please let me know if you have any trouble.

Hooray! Thank you SO MUCH for sorting this out, we are very grateful for your attention!
In future, I wonder if there’s any changes that could be made to your system, e.g.:
1 – an accurate error message explaining that the domain mapping is a problem.
2 – warning e-mails to the actual account affected when the domain mapping is about to expire. We would have fixed this years ago if we’d realised what the problem was.As I said, many thanks for explaining it now and helping us get it sorted. We (and the Dean Court community) are very grateful!
Best wishes,

Thank you for the feedback. We are working on making this more transparent for users so that we can avoid this sort of confusion.
Glad I could help sort it out.
