Domain Expired

    Our neighborhood organization has had a wordpress website for a couple of years. Members come and go and none of us are particularly tech savy. Just last week our domain stopped working and a note came up about the domain expiring. When we log into the admin site it shows that we are on the free plan, but our mapped domain expired a week or 2 ago. I see that we can upgrade our plan, but I am not sure how we previously had a mapped domain with a free account (there doesnt seem to be any billing history), but now we have to pay for it? The person that originally setup the site has since moved and none of our accounting records seem to indicate anything paid to wordrpess either. We are a 501c3 (not sure if it was free at one point for non-profits or if something recently changed). I am guessing we are stuck paying the 2.99 per month (personal plan) if we want to continue using wordpress?

    Hi Dorisblyth.

    Thank you for sharing your problem. I have some good news for you. You are registered with http://www.godaddy.com and they are hosting your domain. Normally you would have to pay a few dollars per month, but since you are an NGO, you might be able to renew your domain for free. Please have a look here: http://www.techsoup.org/godaddy.

    The domain mapping upgrade on your site was bought by a different username, flai30. The person who owns that username will be able to renew the domain mapping, but other users on the site will not be able to renew it.

    I see you mention that person has moved. Is there any possibility that you can contact them and ask them to transfer the site and upgrade to you? There are other options to let you add a domain mapping upgrade to the site, but as flai30 is also the owner of the site it’s really the best course of action if they transfer the site to someone who is still active on it, as support can only help you with changes to the site, etc. if the site owner requests it, and some actions are only possible to the site owner.
