What happened to my Domain and why did it expire without any kind of notification?

That domain is not registered with WordPress.com and has never been connected to any site here.
According to the Whois data the registrar for that domain is Register.com, so you need to please contact them for help with that domain.

I honestly do not understand.
I was going through WordPress via Matthew Loomis guide on setting up a Blog/Website (Green Geeks). I’ve been using it for almost a year now. Then all of a sudden, I don’t have access to my own website any longer.Is this still something you can’t help me with??

You’re at the wrong support forum. This forum is for sites hosted by WordPress.com, not for the self-hosted WordPress sites.
More information on what’s different – https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
You can get help on self-hosted WordPress by posting your question at the WordPress.org Support Forum but in your case, you need to contact Register.com to resolve your issues.
