Domain expired

  Hi. I let my domain accidentally expire and would like to renew it, if possible. I saw on ICANN that it is pending deletion. It isn’t listed under domains I own and after clicking through all of the articles about domain expiration, it let me here through a ‘contact us’ link. I hoped to be able to send a direct email but I suppose not. I hope it’s not too late to pay for and fix this.

  Hi,

  I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble renewing your domain. But I’m afraid that too much time has passed. You’ll need to wait a bit longer until it has passed through the “pending delete” stage and is released into the pool of available domains. Then you should be able to register it again through WordPress.com or any other domain registrar.

  Is there a way to know when it will be released, or do I just need to check if it’s available daily?

  Hi there,

  Unfortunately we don’t know the exact date, as we don’t control this process – when the domain will drop depends on the registry that manages the .com extension.

  Typically the pendingDelete phase lasts around 5 days. Based on the updated date for your domain in the Whois database your domain entered this phase on Monday, which means your domain will likely become available again around Friday/Saturday.

  But I’d recommend checking a couple times each day, in case it drops sooner – once it drops anyone will be able to register it again, so you don’t want it to sit for too long lest someone else registers it before you’re able to.
