Domain expired, but do not know where to pay? (Domain mapping?)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey!
We are a student council located in Oslo, Norway, and have since 2008 (to my understanding) leased a domain from another provider, and then mapped to wordpress. We got a bill from the hosting company back in July, which we paid, but have since the 24th of August been greeted by an expiration notice. Because we change our board every year, it might be hard to keep up with all the account information etc. I read a similar post where a mod answered by telling them to log on the account that registered the wordpress. However, we have not been able to access this account since forever, so that is sadly not an option.

Tl;Dr we would very very much like to keep our domain, but we do not know how / where to pay (unfortunately). Afaik as we know, we have about a week, so we are quite stressed about this whole situation.

In the future, it would be nice if owner privileges were transfered to (email visible only to moderators and staff) as opposed to (email visible only to moderators and staff) (or both would be best, really). The account I, or we, have currently access to is mcrypa (admin) linked to (email visible only to moderators and staff) (my personal e-mail).

    Thank you!

##We got a mail from wordpress saying we need to pay 13$ for renewal, but we are unsure whether that is in regards to our other hosting company, or the wordpress fee for domain mapping. Please help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

First, your domain itself is safe, and so is your site’s content. The upgrade that expired is only the upgrade that connects the domain and the site to each other. But I also see that it has already been renewed by the account that owns it, kattanett

If that user is no longer involved with your site they can always transfer it over to a different account. To do that, that user will need to post here to request the upgrade is transferred, and then just specify which username should be the new owner and I can make the transfer.

I also notice a completely different username, wseland, is the owner of the site itself. That user is the only one who can transfer ownership of the site to a different account. If you want to contact that user to do that, you can find the instructions they need to follow here:

Transferring a Site to Another WordPress.com Account

    Hey!
Yes, we are quite new to this wordpress thing, so we did not really know where to pay for what etc. However, we just had a meeting today with the principal and got things sorted. Thanks for the reply anyway!

    Have a nice evening! :))

I also have the same issue- I am with a company that is a self advocacy group – and the staff changes yearly- So I do not have all the information needed. I also paid back in May for the web site- Now I received notice that my domain is no longer- do to a $13.00 fee. I would pay it but there is no place to go pay it. It only allows me to upgrade for a monthly fee. Which the organization does not have the funds for. Please advise. Thank you Sheree

PS I went on the web page and it says that this domain has a renewal and can not be viewed.

  • @elevradsleder

Thanks for letting me know :)

    @pfofnevada

Can you please let me know what the domain is so I can check? If you already have a domain mapping upgrade you can renew it at the old price without buying a plan, but only the account that bought the upgrade will be able to renew it.

I don’t know who originally purchased the plan. We have had a turnover, since it was opened. I have been with the organization for almost 2 years, How was it paid for last year, if it has to be paid yearly by the organial person? Thank you Sheree

  • It used to be possible to renew an upgrade if you were an admin on the site but not the upgrade owner, but for accounting reasons we changed that so only the owner can renew an upgrade. However, your username you’re posting as here has never renewed that upgrade.

In this case, the upgrade is owned by the username, karihorn, who is also the owner of that site. If that user is no longer involved with your organisation, the best course of action will be to contact them and have them transfer the entire site to a user that is involved. It might be even better to create an admin account to serve as the owner of the site and all upgrades, and then you can just add other users as editors as the need arises, and remove them when they leave.

Let me know if contacting that user is not an option.
