Domain Expired by Accident!
-
Hi there – I had a mixup and didn’t realize that my domain (one of several I registered) was registered with WP – all of my other ones are with another registrar. I just went to my site and realized it’s down – then found out it must have expired in July?? I need to re-register / renew ASAP and have no idea how. Please help! Thank you…
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
That domain expired on 10 June and was then removed from our account. It should still be possible to get it back, but there is a $80 recovery fee to retrieve a domain that is this far expired. That is in addition to the regular renewal cost.
Please let me know if you agree to this fee and I can get the process started.

Looking at your account again it appears you had two domains with us:
themoderncowgirlcooking.com which expired on 10 June this year, and moderncowgirlcooks.com which expired on 10 June 2015 already.
Am I correct that it’s the first one you are trying to recover?
If it’s the second one you want, that domain appears to have been released already, so you should be able to register it at any registrar you choose as a new domain.

I did not even spot that one. You have a lot of very similar domains :)
I’ve just emailed you a payment link. I’ll be notified once you pay and then I can email our registrar to restore the domain. If all goes well, it should be active again by tomorrow at the latest, but in the event that the recovery fails you will be refunded in full.

I paid it earlier today – so please let me know what else we need to do…Nameservers should be set to:
ns4049.hostgator.com
ns4050.hostgator.comalso, just curious why this didn’t show up under her domains to manage when we went in there months ago? And also why we never received notifications about it expiring?
Thank you!

I’ve emailed our registrar. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from them.
The subscription was only removed from your account on 9 September, so up until then you should have seen this domain at My Site ->Domains. As the domain was already past the expiration grace period at that point you would not have been able to renew it, but you should have seen a message that it was expired.
As your domain is not pointed to us you did not see the warning we usually display on the site itself once a domain expires. We’re taking steps to change that in future and make sure you see the warning in time.
I checked the logs and we did send out several expiration warnings, the last email on 4 June, a few days before the domain expired. If you didn’t receive them it could be that your email provider was filtering them out as spam. Did you receive an email with a receipt when you paid a few hours ago?
I’ll let you know once the domain is restored.

Your domain has been restored and is again showing your Hostgator site.
Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

Thank you very much! Now what do I do if I’d like to transfer the domain to a different registrar to avoid confusion in the future?
