Domain Expired – Can’t Access Backend
-
Hi folks, my domain expired as I was in the process of changing my site over to a new name/domain and now I can’t access the backend. The site still shows up under my ‘Linked Blogs’ but I can’t access it. Is there any way to get to this site’s dashboard so I can just change out the domain and access my site?

We can’t help as your site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform. You must contact your hosting support to solve this problem – https://wordpress.com/site-profiler/http://ontheicehockey.net

I did and they said to ask you guys. So I guess I’m out of luck even though I can see the site on my backend? We can’t get in there and swap the domain?

To avoid any confusion, it’s important to distinguish between three different versions of “WordPress”:
- The free, open-source WordPress software that powers your website.
- WordPress.org, the open-source project where you can obtain the software for free to use on your chosen hosting provider.
- WordPress.com, a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software, which is the platform you are currently contacting.
Since your site is not hosted with us, we’re limited in what we can help with and advise. But I can get you pointed in the right direction to get help.
Changing your site URL name in your WordPress settings without first changing the domain at your hosting provider will cause the error you’re seeing now. I recommend reaching out to your host for help with this. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to those files and are the best ones to help you undo this problem. They can also help you update your domain if you still want to change that as well.
If you have trouble in the future, you will need to reach out to your hosting provider or the WordPress.org community for guidance:

I hope that helps!
