Domain Expired. Need to get it back.

Hi WordPress,
I didn’t notice that my domain ‘chuchiehlee.com’ has expired until now. I would like to get it back. I am wondering how could I do that?
Thank you.

Hi zhujie206,
chuchiehlee.com expired on the 29th November 2018. This domain can no longer be renewed through your account so I will need to contact our domain registrar and make a request for it to be restored.
It’s worth noting that if the domain enters the redemption period between now and then, an $80 redemption fee will need to be paid in addition to the regular domain cost.
I’ve sent a payment request for the domain cost to the email address on your Account Settings page and will contact our registrar once the payment has come through.
Please reply here once you’ve paid so we can look at the next steps.

Hi Staff,
Thank you for the reply.
I am wondering, If I would like to purchase the domain directly from domain register instead of wordpress, what’s the next step for me? Am I unable to do it until the domain name back to the market?
Many thanks,
Lee -
You wouldn’t be able to get it directly from the registry, or from anyone really, as it wouldn’t be released anytime soon.
And I believe that while you can transfer a freshly expired domain, this one’s a bit too far gone.
You can renew it here though then transfer it to a new host as you’d like.

HI Staff,
Sorry for the belated reply.
I’ve already paid through the payment request link that you sent me.
Could you help me to restore the domain as soon as possible, please.Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Many thanks,

Hi Chu,
I’m sorry to say that, but your domain is now in redemption as you didn’t complete the payment 18 days ago. Recovering an expired domain is a very time sensitive process.
It is still possible for me to recover the domain at this point, but our registrar charges an $80 fee to restore a domain from redemption. Let me know if you agree to that fee and I can get the recovery process started.

Hi there,
Yes, please.
I’ve already paid $18 through the link you sent me once. But I’m not sure what is this $18’s for? I need this domain to be recovered so I will pay the $80 fee. Can $18 that I just paid be part of $80? Once I get the payment request, I will pay immediately.
And may I ask you to help me add (email visible only to moderators and staff) to my contact email which can let me get domain update/purchase notices in the future, instead of (email visible only to moderators and staff), please?
Many thanks,
Chu -
We’d mentioned this earlier:

19 days ago it cost $18 to renew, but you did not pay that until today. The domain has entered redemption status in the meantime. You were in a grace period before, but not anymore. You can think of it as a late fee the registrar charges, and we cannot get it back for you without paying them that extra $80.
Would you like us to refund the $18, as you wait for the redemption process, or would you like us to create an invoice for the rest?

Hi there,
I’m sending you a payment link for the redemption fee. Once we receive your payment we can contact our domain provider to restore the domain.
We can only refund the $18 you’ve already paid if we don’t redeem the domain at all, i.e. if you wait for the redemption process to run its course, as @supernovia said above. In that case it will be around 30 days before your domain is deleted at the registry, after which it will be available again to register as a brand new domain. You do run the risk of losing the domain if you wait, though, as anyone else will be able to buy it once it’s released.
If we do proceed to recover the domain for you, both the $80 redemption and the $18 renewal fee has to be paid, the first for getting back the domain from redemption, and the second to actually renew it for another year so you can continue using it.

Thank you. I’ve emailed our domain provider to restore the domain. We’ll let you know as soon as we hear back from them.
