domain expired – need to get it back
-
Hi! My domain has expired and I need to get it back. I am not sure how to do that, any advice would be appreciated. It was purchased through wordpress by someone else at my church and I’m not sure what to do or how to re-up it anymore because it’s been removed from my wordpress account. Thank you for any/all help!
The site I need help with is http://www.milfordmethodists.org. It is not hosted by WordPress.com or connected with Jetpack. This site is not linked to my WordPress.com account.

We purchased it through you – WordPress API — when I cancelled my account and closed everything down, it shut the domain so I need you to restore the domain to my account so I can access it again.

Hi there,
It seems that you canceled the domain before it actually expired. Because canceled domains go through a few extra processes, we’ll need some time to restore the domain for you. I’ve already started the domain recovery process on our end and we’ll update you here as soon as the domain has been restored to your WordPress.com account.

Hi there!
Your domain is back on your account; you should be able to access it as usual.
I hope that helps :) -
It is back on my account, but it says “You no longer have access to this site and its purchases. Contact support.” I need to be able to update it and transfer it in the next few days before it expires. I am the only one who has been in control of this site, which is why I don’t know why I can’t access it. Please help!!

Hi there – I see what you mean. I researched this more and I’ll need to both explain a little of how our domain ownership works at WordPress.com, and ask you a couple of questions so we can help further.
All purchased domains need to be attached to a free site URL on WordPress.com hosting. The domain on your account (milfordmethodists.org) is attached to the free site URL “milfordunitedmethodistchurch.wordpress.com”.
The reason why you are unable to manage the domain is because your account is not listed as the owner *nor* a user on the site at milfordunitedmethodistchurch.wordpress.com.
In short, in order to be able to manage the domain you own, you would need to be added as an Admin user to milfordunitedmethodistchurch.wordpress.com (or have the ownership of the free site URL transferred to you). That is not something we can do. And we aren’t able to share any of the owner information for that site since you are not listed as a user on it.
That’s the general domain ownership info I wanted to share. I’ve got a couple of questions below to try to help this along a bit further.
1. What are your intentions with the domain, if you don’t mind me asking? It’s currently pointing to Wix servers, are you wanting to change that?
2. What are your intentions with the site for this domain? Are you wanting to keep using the Wix site, or, are you wanting to rebuild this site using your WordPress.com account, thus, create a new site?
A better idea of your intentions will help us come up with the right solution for you. :)

Hi Dean –
I am trying to unlock the domain so that I can transfer it to Wix permanently. I closed the account recently without realizing it would cancel the domain. The domain was restored and our website is up and running again (milfordmethodists.org). I have no desire to keep “milfordunitedmethodistchurch.wordpress.com” and thought I deleted it when I cancelled the account. I have contacted all of the persons at our church who would have had access to it, and none of their accounts are the “owners” so I can’t figure out what to do. All I want is for the domain “www.milfordmethodists.org” is to be unlocked so I can transfer it over to Wix. I want to keep the Wix site.
Thank you… This has been a nightmare trying to get an answer.
Thanks,
Kaleigh -
Only the account which owns the domain can do that, that’s the account which first opened this thread.
When logged in under that account, simply follow this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/

Hi –
Apologies, I was logged into the wrong account when I added that reply. I am the person (milfsec) that is trying to get this going…Like I said, I cannot access anything with the domain to be able to transfer it. It says to ‘contact support.’ which I have done many times, and no one seems to be able to help me.

Ah, excellent, I see the problem.
Would you please try https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/ again now?
