domain expired, not reverted to free wordpress URL?
-
Hi, I just let the notesfromthejasmineisle.com domain name expire assuming that the site would continue to be hosted under the default (and free) WordPress URL. However this doesn’t seem to be the case… confused about how this works. Any pointers? Thanks!

Hello there,
I have tagged this thread with modlook. This will let staff know that you require help with the transfer of your expired site content to your free site.

Hi there,
Your site will go back to using the free address, but only once the domain is removed from our system. Expired domains go through several stages, and at each stage it comes progressively more difficult to renew the domain, so during the initial stage, the grace period, we show a message on your site that the domain needs to be renewed, just in case you missed our reminder emails.
If you’re sure you definitely don’t want the domain any more, you can cancel it from the Purchases page. Then your site will immediately go back to using the free address.

Adding a domain to a site just changes the address people see in their browsers when viewing the site. No content is transferred during this process, as it’s still the same site. Likewise, no content needs to be transferred when a domain is removed, as the site stays exactly the same – only the address you use to view it changes.
