Domain Expiry
-
Hi there,
I understand that the domain that I purchased through wordpress (biochemsoc.com) expired and I was wondering if you have any information on how long it will take for the domain to be released to the public pool again? -
Hi biochemsoc,
I believe this might help clarify for you.

Have a great day!

@biochemsoc I hope you’ve read the link provided by @tophatt29 carefully. If that domain isn’t already in the redemption period then it soon will be. If you don’t wish to pay WordPress.com in the future then you will then have to wait many weeks with no sure guarantee that you’ll be able to recover the domain. The final paragraph of the above link says:
Please Remember
Keep in mind that once your domain expires, it can be unavailable for up to 90 days. Once it goes back on the market, anyone can register it. You should never allow a domain to expire unless you are fully done with it and never want to use it again. -
Hi there,
Our logs show you cancelled that domain on 21 September. Both cancelled and expired domains go through a redemption process before they are released for registration again, and once they are released anyone can buy it. If you still wanted to use the domain it would have been better not to cancel it.
The domain is currently in redemption with our registrar, which means I can still get it back for you, but our registrar charges a $80 fee to do that, and you’ll need to renew the domain as well.
Otherwise you can wait for the domain to be released, which might still be several weeks, and hope someone else don’t buy it before you are able to.
