  I am switching over to Shopify from shoppepress wordpress site. My domain is about to renew on december 20th with wordpress but I would like to have it redirected to shopfiy. My use hostgator to host my domain.

  Do I let the domain renew in wordpress ? If I don’t I will lose the domain right ?

  How do I go about getting this switched over ?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  I see that you purchased your domain through WordPress.com. Since domains are not my strong point, I’m going to tag this for Staff.

  Regardless, always renew a custom domain name you intend on using and regardless if you are using it here on WordPress.com or somewhere else! If you need to change the DNS settings in your domains dashboard to point to a different host you can do so.

  So, you mean you are using hostgator to host your new site? And as @JenT mentioned, your current domain is registered with us.

  I would definitely renew the domain here because there is no guarantee you would get it back if you let it expired. You have had the domain with us for a very long time, so you can either change the DNS settings to point it to your site at hostgator, or you can transfer the domain in order to have the site and domain under the same host.
