Domain help!

    Hi, I have a domain that I bought on GoDaddy a few months ago, but have realized that I’d much rather use WordPress to customize it. What is the best way to do this? I’d like to have everything in one place, so should I somehow release the domain from GoDaddy and then register the domain here? And if you register a premium domain on WordPress, do you also need a hosting service? Thank you!

    Hi –

    You can set up your WordPress.com account using a domain you have previously purchased elsewhere. All you have to do is map the domain. Here are instructions:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

    If you delete a domain, there is no guarantee that you will ever be able to recover it.

    Free domains on WordPress.com are those that look like this, YOUR_BLOG_NAME.wordpress.com. If you purchase a premium domain you can eliminate the .wordpress.com part and your domain can look like YOUR_BLOG_NAME.com.

    You will never need to have self hosting if using WordPress.com. Self hosting is a requirement of WordPress.org. You can read more about the differences in WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:
