  I’m confused about the process of changing my domain name. I have just cancelled my domain subscription with WordPress and deleted the site, and am wanting to launch it on another website, but it’s still coming up as taken (by me) how long will I have to wait before it is available again?

  Hi there,

  You should never cancel a domain name if you want to use it again, as cancelled domain can take few days to few months of time to get available again for register.

  I am tagging this thread for staff assistance. They can help you to try restoring that domain to your account.

  Wait for their response, till then please confirm the domain name which you cancelled.

  Hi there,

  I see we’ve already refunded you for the domain and the Personal Plan that you used to register it. Please buy a new plan for the new site, and let me know once you’ve done that. Then I’ll be able to restore the domain to your account.

  Hi Kokkieh,

  I’m not sure how to buy a new plan for the new site, if the domain is already in use…Would you mind linking me to where I need to go? Or explaining the steps?

  Go to My Site ->Plans, and select a new plan. Then go through the checkout process to buy it.

  Don’t add a domain, buy only the plan. Once you have the plan we can restore the domain from our end.

  Hi Kokkieh,

  Ok, all done! The reason I cancelled was to transfer the domain over to another site. When will I be able to do this (after 60 days?)

  Okay, the domain is now active in your account again.

  You won’t be able to transfer it until you’ve owned it for at least 60 days, no, but in the meantime you can point the domain to another service, as explained here:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/

  But if you’re planning to transfer it you also don’t actually need a plan on our end. Please let me know if you don’t want the plan, and I can refund you for the non-domain portion.

  Yes I’m planning to transfer it so won’t need the plan, thank you kindly for reactivating the domain.
