Domain hosted elsewhere

  Hi all,

  I have a question. Let’s say for example I own example.com and it is hosted somewhere. Can I map my wordpress blog to example.com.

  So to be clear: example.wordpress.com -> example.com in stead of example.com -> example.wordpress.com. So exampel.wordpress.com ‘shows’ the content of example.com and if you go to example.wordpress.com/page1 it gets its content form example.com/page1

  If this is possible, how do I do that?

  If you have a domain on example.com right now (or a new domain registered), you can map it to your blog example.wordpress.com. Once you have the name servers pointing to wordpress.com from the documentation, you can choose if you want example.com pointing to example.wordpress.com or the opposite (which you want).

  That way if someone goes to example.com/about/ the page shows up. If someone goes to example.wordpress.com/about/ they are redirected to example.com/about/ showing the exact same content. The domain mapping means the blog is hosted on wordpress.com though. I think you know that though :)

  Okay, one more question, if example.wordpess.com points to example.com, does it display the content hosted on server of my registrar? Or will it display the content stored on the server of wordpress?

  The registrar is just the “post office” that has the address for your information (in this case wordpress.com servers). If you have it setup correctly, it will show the information from the blog example.wordpress.com when you view example.com :)

  OK, I think this may help me as well, but let me see if I’ve got this right. I’ve put my previous wordpress blog (example.wordpress.com) all over the place, but I don’t plan to update example.wordpress.com any more.

  What I’d like is for visitors to example.wordpress.com to be automatically redirected to http://www.example.com (a wordpress blog hosted by Bluehost). Are Pakku and I talking about the same thing?
