Domain in Redemption Period

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m trying to recover my site’s domain (farmhouseestatesales.com) which expired in May. I contacted Wild West Domains (who according to WHOIS is the reseller registrar), they have told to me to contact WordPress Support but I’ve not heard back from them yet so here I am.

I believe the domain is in the Redemption period and I keep reading that it would be $80 to regain it but can’t find any information on how to do this or anybody to help me do it.

It hasn’t come up on the godaddy auction site (should I be looking elsewhere?) and it’s still unavailable in the purchase pool.

    THANK YOU

The domain is in redemption and you are correct that there are now increased costs required to recover it. As the domain has expired it no longer shows in your dashboard. Staff intervention is required. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/
I have added modlook to ask staff to reply to you and explain your options.

  • Hey there,

As both you @themagicrobot mentioned, I confirmed and farmhouseestatesales.com is now in a redemption period. You can still renew your domain through us, but it is now a more expensive and complicated process to do so. Our registrar charges an $80 late renewal fee in addition to the $26 we charge to renew the domain. The good news is that this is still a chance of reclaiming the domain through this option.

Your other option is to wait until the redemption period is over so that the domain becomes available for registration again. Domains are usually in redemption for approximately 80 days, but with this option, you run
the risk of someone else jumping in front of you to purchase the domain before you get the chance.

Please let me know if you want to proceed with paying the late renewal fee in the attempt to reclaim the domain name. This option is also time sensitive because the domain can be auctioned off to an expired domain bidder.

I would suggest enabling the auto-renew option so that you will not have to worry about losing control over your domain in the future.

Hi staff-doublebassd – I don’t mind paying the $80 late fee + $26 renewal fee, how can I get started on this?

    THANK YOU

  • Hi there,

I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore farmhouseestatesales.com to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back. If I am successful, I can send you a manual payment request form for you to repurchase the domain.

I will let you know once I hear back from the registrar.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

    Hi,
If you could contact them to see if we can restore it and get the domain back and then bill us, that would be awesome.
    Thank you so much!

  • Hi there,

That is exactly what we’ll do! I’ll keep you updated. Thanks!

Thank you – do you know roughly how long this could take?

  • It usually takes about 24 hours to hear back from our registry partners but I have not heard from them yet. If I don’t hear from them by the end of today, I’ll contact them again first thing tomorrow.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

I was able to retrieve farmhouseestatesales.com and reactivate it under your account!

I have sent you the manual payment for the fee and registration, so please pay that when you get the opportunity.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
