  Does deleting a website make the domain name available? I want to use the domain name on another site but I need to know if deleting the wordpress site will free up the domain name for the other site, and if it does, how soon after? It’s a time-sensitive issue, so I can’t just delete it then wait weeks or months for the domain name to be available again.

  No — if you delete the site, you won’t be able to use the site address again.

  If you want to move content to it, you’ll need to first permanently delete its content (not the site as a whole):

  Empty Your Site to Start Fresh

  Then you can migrate the content from the old site to the new one by following this guide:
