My domain is expiring tomorrow and I’m considering not renewing it anymore (justsyph.com). Would this automatically go to justsylph.wordpress.com? This was my original one before I opted for upgrade.

Hey Maia!
When the domain first expires, it will still be attached to your site, in case you choose to save it. However, if you want to let it expire altogether, your site can absolutely return to the free version of your domain: justsylph.wordpress.com.

Ha! My recommendation is this — drop me a line tomorrow when your domain is set to expire, and I can make sure it is detached cleanly. So, it’s not “automatic” on my end, but why not let me do that work for you? :)

By “save” it, I mean that if a domain expires, but a user realizes she wants to keep it, there is a possibility that it can be renewed before the registrar cancels it completely and allows another user to buy it. Whenever a domain expires, or is canceled, it can be sold to another buyer.
So, if you wanted to save it…you’d still have to pay to renew it.

Hey Maia!
Yes — you should write a post to let your followers know that your URL is changing. Also, be aware that you should change your domain if you’ve posted your custom domain (justsylph.com) anywhere. (ie. another website, or on your social network sites). Otherwise, the link will not work.
I’m happy to detach that expired domain for you! I’ll take care of that immediately.

Kinda late now to post abut the change since the domain is gone lol. I can probably email some, not all since I can’t access the followers list anymore. You wouldn’t have that in your end by any chance, would you?

Hi Maia!
The good news is that if you create a blog post, your followers will receive notification, even though your domain name has changed. You won’t lose any of the subscribers to your site by returning to your free domain name!
I don’t have an email list for your site…but the post will do the trick. Also, for the future, in case you want to create an email list, so you can send private notes to your followers, you might use a contact form to gather the data:
