domain is no longer available, but never existed

  Dear WordPress gurus,

  I had to register a WP blog about three years ago as part of a school assignment and have never used this website again ever since. However, i’m looking into the possibilities of WP as a portfolio and find it very easy and accessible to use.

  I’m having problems with registering the <name>.wordpress.com. I have deleted my old blog using ‘permanently delete my site’s address and content’ because i wasn’t going to use the old URL (which was name – last name .wordpress.comà). After deleting that, i changed my username and tried to register my new blog, which will serve as my portfolio.

  However, the website states i can’t register that domain because it already exists. when i look it up, WP informs me with ‘that website is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site’.

  Did I do something wrong with selecting ‘delete all content’, making my profile incapable of registering new domains? Or was I wrong to change my username (which is the same prefix as I would use for name.wordpress.com)?

  I hope my situation makes any sense.

  (the blog this support ticket will link to was just a test and is not the domain name i would like to register.)

  Please give us exact information:

  What is the URL of the site you want to register?

  Is it the same as the one listed at the bottom of your support request alfazulo125.wordpress.com or something else? If it is alfazulo125, then the site is up but currently has no content.

  If something else, then what is it?

  I’m trying to activate dewaeltv.wordpress.com, which isn’t possible because it states ‘the authors have deleted this website’. But it has never been created.

  Oh dear. Any time you change a blog URL or a username, you run into permanent, irreversible problems. I’ve flagged this for staff to see what they have to say about it, but you are probably out of luck.
