Domain is Parked
-
I wanted to switch to WordPress.org from wordpress.com. I registered the same domain with a different server and cancelled the domain from my wordpress.com site, and then removed it from the site. Now it is parked and I tried to get it back on the .com site to see if there was something else I needed to do to unlink it from my site entirely, but it says it’s already connected to a wordpress.com site. There’s no way it’s someone else’s site because I already have the domain on my wordpress.org site but it still says it’s parked?
I’m so confused, help!

Hi!
Hi! It’s because cancelled domains aren’t released right away. They’re sent back to the registrar, where they go through a redemption process. It can be costly and tricky to get a domain back after that.
I’ve restored one of your domains, since it hadn’t gone into redemption yet. Please don’t just cancel it. Do connect it with the old host, then transfer it if all goes well on WordPress.org:
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/The other had expired, then it was cancelled. It is in redemption and would require an $80 redemption fee:
Let us know what you’d like to do! Also, I do want to point out you can do most things on WordPress.com that you can do with a .org installation elsewhere. The biggest difference is that you’ll be handling your own hosting, maintenance, and support. SSL hosting alone is comparably priced, but the costs for the other aspects of managing your own installation can add up.
So if there’s something you’re trying to do that you think you need .org for, let us know; we can let you know what options are available.
Cheers!
