Domain is parked but I need it UNparked, please!!

  • Unknown's avatar

My domain is parked. I think it’s because I tried to refund it because I wanted to transfer to another WordPress account but didn’t know how to go about it.
Could I cancel that refund and get my purchased domain back (“ridgefieldguide.com”)? Thank you so much! I’m so new to this whole thing! Ugh! It’s been frustrating. Thank you so much!!!!!

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi there!

Please do not create duplicate threads. I’ve removed your other posts and will reply to you here.

Canceling a domain does not make it immediately available to repurchase elsewhere. Here are the available options for you:

Wait: You can wait about five days from cancellation for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you can purchase it again with another provider.

Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice and restore the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.

Repurchase a Plan: To host your site here, buy an annual plan, skip the domain option, and update us here.

Let us know which way you’d like to proceed. Thanks.

I want to host it here in WordPress but do I have to buy the annual plan even though I didn’t get my initial refund back yet?

  • Hello there,

I can see a refund has been processed and this can take up to 10 days to show on a bank statement.

If you would like to re-purchase the domain, that should be possible.

Once confirmed, we can proceed with next steps.

Hi I’m so sorry. I probably shouldn’t have freaked out and emailed you guys a bunch of times. It is restored now from a tech support person in another email. Thank goodness!! Thanks so much for all of your help on this so far though! I’m just glad I have it back.

How can I get it transferred out to my other WordPress account though?

  • Hi there,

Do you have access to the other account? If so, you can follow the instructions here in regards to moving your domain over to that account:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/transfer-a-domain-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

Please read the directions and let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

Ok I think I’m getting how to do this now. So if I transfer this domain to another WordPress user then will that user be able to edit the page? Or will it be locked or something? They have an annual plan. It’s actually mine or my other WordPress user account.

  • Hi there,

I’m not sure I understand, can you clarify what you are trying to set up? I can confirm that ridgefieldguide.com but when I look closer I see that it has domain settings that point traffic to an outside host (GoDaddy) who we are not connected with.

To clarify, we are not the only provider of WordPress sites, so we are able to help with access for sites that are hosted directly on WordPress.com, but if you are pointing your domain traffic to another provider we are not able to help with regaining access to that site. You would likely need to contact GoDaddy support for assistance with that.

    Thanks for the additional info!

That’s so weird because I haven’t created a website before and everyone kept telling me that every beginner uses WordPress so I created my first website on here a couple days ago using ridgefieldguide.com which said it was available to take.

I don’t even know what godaddy is and have never had an account in there.

So then I shouldn’t try to transfer my domain to a different WordPress user account?

Glad you let me know about this before I tried it. Trying to be super cautious so I don’t bother you guys again down the road. Thanks again!

  • Hi there,

Trying to be super cautious so I don’t bother you guys again down the road.

It’s no bother, we’re happy to help. I was just trying to understand your goals. :)

I don’t even know what godaddy is and have never had an account in there.

That could have been my mistake. Now that I look at the URL settings I see it’s set up to connect to your WordPress.com site, and not GoDaddy. I may have had my signals crossed, so apologies for any confusion.

so I created my first website on here a couple days ago using ridgefieldguide.com which said it was available to take.

To be sure I understand, this is under a different account that you set up with us earlier? E.G. not under your @jpj0 login we are chatting under now, but under a different account, yes?

If so then yes you can transfer the domain from this account to that one, that is not an issue. Let me know if I’ve got that correct and we’re happy to walk you through it, thanks!

Think I finally got it. Thank you so much! I was able to transfer the domain to my other account. Though I don’t have the annual plan like I do with the other account domain. Do I have to pay an additional $60 for this domain to be able to customize it?

  • Hello there,

    Awesome!

That’s correct, the site would need a paid plan in order to set a custom primary domain.

At a minimum the site would need to be on the personal plan.

Oh I see. I just got my refund back too. That was quick. Ok so I will now purchase a personal plan for this second domain. Looks like I’m good to go from here. Feel free to mark this as closed. Thanks so much for your help! :)
