Domain Issues

    Hello,

I want my blog’s domain address to be herbyourenthusiasm.net. I own this domain address with a couple others. My business website is herbandohm.com and this is listed as my primary domain name in wordpress. As such, herbyourenthusiasm.net gets directed there. I do not want this. I want herbyourenthusiasm.net to be my wordpress blog address. I own my website address through wordpress, which makes it all very tricky. Please advice.
    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

Just so I understand correctly, you have both herbyourenthusiasm.net and herbandohm.com on your WordPress.com blog. Currently, herbandohm.com is set as the primary domain so your other domains get redirected there.

Instead, you would like to set herbyourenthusiasm.net as the primary domain. Is that correct? If so, you can do that here:

    https://herbyourenthusiasm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

Please let me know if I misunderstood!

    Jeremey,

Thanks for your reply. You are correct that I have both domains directed to herbandohm.com, which is my website. However, my original blog posts were done under herbyourenthusiasm.net. Since this domain now goes to my website, no one can ever view my blog posts anymore at that address. I do not want this. I want people to view my blog posts as herbyourenthusiasm.net. It appears you have to make a domain your default domain and then any other domains that you own on wordpress have to be directed there. I do not want this. How do I make herbyourenthusiasm.net not get directed to herbandohm.com while keeping all other domains directed there?
    Thanks!!

It appears you have to make a domain your default domain and then any other domains that you own on wordpress have to be directed there.

That is correct. All domains that are assigned to a certain blog are redirected to the primary domain on that blog.

How do I make herbyourenthusiasm.net not get directed to herbandohm.com while keeping all other domains directed there?

So, just to be clear, herbyourenthusiasm.net is not at all affiliated with herbandohm.com. Is that correct? Assuming so, you’ll want to add a new blog to your account following the instructions here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-new-site to-an-existing-account

Then, once you have the new site setup, we can transfer herbyourenthusiasm.net off of herbyourenthusiasm.wordpress.com and onto the new site so it will be completely separate from herbandohm.com. Does that make sense?

    Jeremey,

You are correct. Is there any way I can call you? The reason why all of this is occuring is because I bought the domain for my business website through wordpress long before I started the business. I didn’t really know about Godaddy etc and was holding domain names via wordpress. So, I’d love to separate my website and blog, but now I really can’t do that because all the domains are on wordpress and I am afraid if I tamper with herbandohm.com (my biz website), the whole website may not work. Is there a quick way to set up a new blog the exact same as the one I have now and transfer all of my posts? I just don’t know an easy way to do this. If I can give you a call I think it would really help.

    Jeremey,

I created the new blog. I am unsure how to proceed. Please advice. And thank you SO much for your help.

Is there any way I can call you?

We don’t offer support over the phone, but we can definitely work on this here!

Is there a quick way to set up a new blog the exact same as the one I have now and transfer all of my posts?

I just want to make sure that I understand correctly here.

The domain herbandohm.com is pointed to a self-hosted site elsewhere (looks like Squarespace) that is not affiliated with WordPress.com with the exception that you’ve registered it here.

We want herbyourenthusiasm.net to reflect the posts shown here:

    https://herbyourenthusiasm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=post

Basically, we want herbyourenthusiasm.net to reflect this page:

    http://d.pr/i/p9yw

    Is that correct?

If so, this is actually not as involved as I was previously thinking. We’ll just need to adjust the primary domain here:

    https://herbyourenthusiasm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

Set that to herbyourenthusiasm.net. The other domain herbandohm.com will continue pointing to Squarespace. Can you give this a try?

    Jeremey,

This worked. Just out of curiosity, how did we get herbandohm.com to go to my website when I now put herbyourenthusiasm.net as my primary domain, which all other domains should direct to? It doesn’t quite make sense to me.

    Thanks,
    Amy

Also, my tweets that were auto posted from wordpress to twitter are now linking correctly to herbandohm.net except for one tweet. My twitter handle is herbandohm and the tweet says American Chinese Food: Cooking my way to the truth. It is the only tweet that is still directed back to Herbandohm.com and I am unsure why. It is a very good blog post so I want to get this fixed or repost it somehow again to twitter. Can you check it out and advise?
    Thanks!

    Hey Amy!

how did we get herbandohm.com to go to my website when I now put herbyourenthusiasm.net as my primary domain, which all other domains should direct to?

We have set separate name servers for herbandohm.com, which “overrides” the primary domain so to speak. If the name servers for herbandohm.com were changed to point to WordPress.com, this would not work correctly.

I’m having trouble locating the exact tweet. Do you have a link handy so I could check this out?
