Domain issues?
-
My blog has stopped working today with the ‘can’t find server’ message. I have a WP premium upgrade which includes my domain name and mapping continues to show as ‘handled by WordPress’. However when I go to ‘my upgrades’ I see that ‘DNS needs to be updated’ is showing. In 2014, I unlocked my domain from my previous host and transferred to WordPress….on the 6th Dec. Coincidence?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your domain has expired, but It doesn’t appear to be registered through WordPress.com. Whois information lists Tucows Inc. as the registrar. Go here to find out the name of the domain provider: http://www.tucowsdomains.com/provider
Then contact them to get your domain registration renewed.
-
Thanks micawbr. That does show the original registrar. However I had assumed that I had transferred this last year. In WP ‘my domains’ my domain shows as active and renews on 21 Nov 2016.

Hey digi2ap,
I don’t think you can actually transfer domain INTO WordPress.com. You likely paid to have your domain mapped to WordPress.com – however this only allows you to use your domain with your WP while it remains registered at the original registrar.
Your best bet is contact your original provider and renew your domain through them.
Tucow’s whois server suggests MOO Inc. is your service provider:
~$ whois -h whois.tucows.com anthonypalmer.me | grep -A 1 Registration
Registration Service Provider:
MOO Inc., (email visible only to moderators and staff) -
Is there some issue with WP affecting this – I see that when searching for a domain name I get: “Domain registration is unavailable. We’re hard at work on the issue. Please check back shortly.”

I don’t know WHAT I am doing. I think I shouldn’t have gotten a premium subscription. Never blogged before. I entered the name I wanted for my blog but that is not what I got. Can’t get any help from support. I only find these forums and FAQs. Can anyone help me with this?
I don’t want a name that is not the same as my store name.
And why do I need a free domain if I just paid for the blog domain I need? Ugh. I didn’t know I was getting in this far over my head. -
Thanks saundraslp – your issue seems a little different and I am certainly content with my WP premium sub so I hope yours works out as well. However the point you raise about not getting any support is valid, it might seem. Is anyone there?
-
@digi2ap – I’ve tagged this for a staff member’s attention as I’m not able to view the details of your account.
@saundraslp
Everyone who registers on WordPress.com gets a free domain (unless they only want a user account). They can map a custom domain to that free domain if they wish. These forums generally have one topic (usually one poster) per thread to avoid confusion when resolving a problem. @digi2ap
Keeping this thread on the front page won’t result in that at all. Staff work through threads tagged for their attention in datestamp order. As would be expected they serve the threads with the earliest dates first and work their way forward to the most recent threads. There is a backlog and even if there wasn’t bumping threads for that reason is useless here. -
Hi @digi2ap, @nerdepic is correct; you wouldn’t be able to transfer a domain in at this point.
You can map a domain, but you will still need to keep it renewed at your registrar, so I would get in touch with them ASAP to renew it before you’re hit with late fees.
And, anyone who needs to get in touch with support can try here during US business hours:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contactAnd @micawbr ; thank you. That was an empathetic way to let someone know they should start a new thread. Cheers. :)

I completed a transfer authorisation from my original registrar to WP in 2014 without a hitch.
-
And not that I particularly wish to change my domain name but if I try to change it through WP I get:
‘Domain registration is unavailable
We’re hard at work on the issue. Please check back shortly.’ -
And more confusingly still (for me) there is a point in that I didn’t pay my original registrar for the domain for the whole of the year just gone as I completed the transfer to WP ahead of the renewal date in 2014. So why the problem now a year on?

Have now emailed support – just found out that my WP Premium offers email support. Thanks all for the help though.
