Domain maping charge
-
Hi,
I own my blog domain name with another hosting company other than WordPress, I’m also using their hosting., If I want to transfer it to WordPress there is a $13 charge per year for mapping a domain name I already own.Do I need to transfer my blog to work with WordPress when I already have domain and hosting?
What’s the reason behind having my blog being map in order to work with wordpress?
I appologies,. its a very confusing topic for me and I need to find a solution.
Thanks -

No you do not. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have separate logins. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click this link http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

If you want to transfer your blog content into a free hosted WordPress.com blog and have WordPress.com domain map from the free hosted WordPress.com blog to the domain you already own then you have to pay for that annually.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
