Domain mapped – how to get my old (redirect) email to work?

    :) It’s me again..

Now that my blog’s working great under the right domain, I notice that my old email hanna(a)gurmee.net doesn’t work anymore. I realize I was warned but I thought I’d take things one step at a time.

Basically the email’s been just redirecting everything to my gmail account so I have no mailbox hosted at the domain provider’s servers. I’d like to have this email work still but have no idea how to do this, even after browsing through numerous support pages and the forum.

Who should now provide me with the details to use for my custom DNS? (google/WP/domain provider)
The domain provider no longer has control over the DNS stuff since I started with the domain mapping and it feels funny that I could get this info from google that is only the place where my emails finally end up in.. :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • You can exactly enjoy pretty much the same service by setting up the same email address with Google Apps for Domains.

    Just follow this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/

I am about to map a registered domain (theyogaofwriting.com) to my wordpress blog.

That domain (and the accompanying email address: (email visible only to moderators and staff)) are both hosted via cornerhost.com, the hosting of which I’d eventually like to do away with.

Am I to assume that if I purchase the domain map upgrade ($12 a year through wordpress) and use the Google Apps (for free) that I will basically be redirecting my email at no extra charge AND that I will still be receiving my email at (email visible only to moderators and staff) through Google Apps?

Just want to be clear. And thank you!

  • That is exactly correct. :)
