Domain mapped, struggling with email.
-
My registrar says “You can’t use our MX records unless the DNS is here.” They don’t appear to provide the MX records via their website.
They then said: “If I were you I would contact wordpress and say you need to use IP forwarding because of the mail issue. They will then allow calls from the domain on their web servers and give you the IP address of the web server in question to enter
into the DNS.”Being a technical ignoramus, I’m not sure what all that means, apart from that I don’t believe WordPress will go for that. Will they?
So… how can I get my email working?
Cheers!

This should help: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-other-email/
WordPress.COM does not use static IP addresses so there can be some problems with using static –
Using name servers to point to WordPress.COM
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Then your email host should be able to give you the records to point the email back to them

Thanks for the help. I’ve looked at those pages already, but my problem arises in that my registrar (which also hosts my email currently) doesn’t seem to want to give me the MX records. Which means – as far as I know – that I can’t update the Custom DNS field on WordPress.com with the required information.
Does that mean I’m stuck?

The MX records are one of the records required and that needs to come from your email host – did they say why they would not give you the required records?
There have been several cases of Tech Support has not a clue what they are doing?
Sometimes talking to another person has helped or moving up the chain to a more senior tech has helped
What is your email host?
-
My host is freeparking.co.uk – the place I used to register my domain.
All they say is: “Can you use a CNAME? Or web forwarding? Please ask as there is no way for the free email to work when the domain is not on our DNS. As it stands, all email will now have ceased.”
I have no idea what the CNAME or web forwarding refers to unfortunately, being technical dunce.

I have flagged this for the staff to help
There are other options for email hosting – some of which are no charge – see below – that might be an option also

You’ll need to ask them for their email DNS records, typically MX Records and sometimes CNAME or A Records.
Then, you can set it up following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-other-email/
If they’re unable to provide that, then we won’t be able to support email through them, but we do have other options: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/
