Domain Mapped To Wrong Site, Cancelled It, Now What?

    Hi there.

I just tried to buy the domain for a new site ValkyrieandStregha, but it ended up mapped to my existing site Open Access Antiquarianism. When I couldn’t figure it out and customer help didn’t respond, I cancelled it with the idea that I would then re-buy it, but from the right subsubsubtab in the less than awesome interface for this. But now it says that ValkyrieandStregha.com is parked and I’m unable to buy it from within WordPress.

Can I un-uncancel (given that in the interim, I finally found the transfer bit of the right subsubsubsubssubsubsubmenu) or how do I get the site free so I can buy it again.

Advice and guidance is appreciated. Advance super mega extreme thanks!

  • Hi there,

Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future. This would have been communicated to you in a warning message when you cancelled the domain.

I’ve restored the domain to your site, openaccessantiquarianism.wordpress.com. Can you please confirm the full WordPress.com URL of the site to which you want it connected instead? You should be able to move the domain yourself, but I’m happy to also do it for you.

Transfer a Domain to Another WordPress.com Site or Account

The G Suite email subscription you bought along with the domain cannot be moved to another site, but it will still work even if it’s connected to a different site than the domain. Please don’t cancel that, as that will remove the upgrade from our system completely and you’ll then have to work through Google directly to keep on using it.
