Domain Mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I own the domain http://www.storiesforsophie.co.uk and recently paid £11 to map it, but I didn’t do it right away. Since then, I think I may have cancelled or deleted that domain from my WordPress account somehow, before it was mapped. I can still see the purchase receipt, but can’t find the instructions anywhere or any link to go ahead and map the domain. I tried again to purchase the mapping for this domain, just to see what would happen. It told me I couldn’t because the domain was already registered for mapping.

    Thanks
    Sophie

  • Your domain isn’t mapped to WordPress.com. I notified the Support Staff for further assistance.

    Hi Sophie!

You’re right that the domain mapping to storiesforsophie.co.uk was removed. From your post, it looks like this was an accident and so I’ve gone ahead to add that mapping back to your account for you.

Domain mapping is generally a two step process. You’ve completed the first step by adding the domain mapping through WordPress.com.

The next step is to update the domain’s name servers through the company that it was originally registered with. The name servers need to be updated to the following:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

123-reg have the following support documentation to help further guide you on updating your domain’s name servers through them:

    https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/how-do-i-change-the-nameservers-for-my-domain-name-1206/

We’re right here if extra questions come up too. :)

    Hi again,

Thanks so much with your help on this. I followed the steps above, but it’s not quite worked.

My domain http://www.storiesforsophie.co.uk seems to be pointing to WordPress but not to my particular blog.

    Could you help me please?

    Thanks in advance :-)
    Sophie

    Hello,

After you change nameservers, it takes a while to get updated throughout the internet.

At the moment, I see STORIES FOR SOPHIE when I open http://www.storiesforsophie.co.uk.

Please try again after couple of hours and see if the site appears for you.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi,

Thank you for reply. I realise it can take up to 48 hours, but I actually made the changes last week, so would have expected to be able to see the blog by now.

Yeah, I see the title to my blog too, but none of the content. If you look here http://www.storiesforsophieblog.wordpress.com you will see my blog with all of it’s content.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Sophie!

I’m really sorry for the delay in reply here.

I can see that storiesforsophie.co.uk was mapped to a separate WordPress.com site and so have transferred it to storiesforsophieblog.wordpress.com for you. You’ll now be redirected to that site when typing storiesforsophie.co.uk into your browser.

If you’d like storiesforsophie.co.uk to be the primary domain for that site then you can follow the guidance here:
