Domain mapping

I understand that if I have an existing site it can be redirect via the DNS to host with WordPress. However, if I have created a site with the free WordPress can I also redirect that to my existing DNS? Specifically, I want platinumpools.wordpress.com to become http://www.platinum-pools.com

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

To clarify, you want the site at platinumpools.wordpress.com to appear if you type platinum-pools.com in your browser, correct?

That is not a redirect, but is called domain mapping. You can find instructions how to do that here:

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

A site redirect is something completely different. If you have a site at platinum-pools.com, and you want anyone who visits the site at platinumpools.wordpress.com to go to the other site instead, you’ll use a redirect.

In other words, mapping connects a domain to a site, while a redirect forwards your traffic from one site to a completely different site.

Let me know if you have any questions.
