Domain Mapping

    Hi,
I have been using a free WordPress site for a while, but for Christmas, my husband bought me my domain name using Squarespace. I was hoping to keep both, but get my WordPress traffic forwarded to the other site. I saw you can ‘domain map’ for $13/year. Is that what this does? I am horrible (clearly) with technology. I love WordPress and the connections with other bloggers that I am starting to make, but I am really excited about my new site and the design and other things I am pursuing with it. However, I don’t want to split my traffic.
So how do I do this without spending a ton for both sites? Thanks!

  • Hi there,

Do you want to use the domain with a site on Squarespace, or with a site on WordPress.com?

If you want to use it with a site on Squarespace, and you want traffic to your WordPress.com site to go to the Squarespace site instead, you need the Site Redirect upgrade to do that.

    Site Redirect

Keep in mind that there is no way to transfer your WordPress.com followers to Squarespace, so they won’t receive any updates of new posts you publish on that end. So if this is what you want, an announcement post on your WordPress.com site to announce the move before you add the site redirect would be a good idea, so your existing followers have a chance to start following you on that side instead.

If instead you want to use the Squarespace domain with your WordPress.com site, you can use the domain mapping upgrade.

Use a Domain You Already Own (Domain Mapping)

Obviously I hope you pick the second option, but it’s up to you ;)

Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.
