Domain Mapping

  My web hosting with which my domain is hosted is due to expire in a couple of days. I have created a new wordpress site and plan to let my old hosting expire. I mapped my domain over to the new wordpress site but am now unsure what I need to do regarding my domain hosting. The domain mapping has a year to run but i’m worried that if I don’t have another web host the mapping will fail? I had assumed that i had transfered it over and now it is safe for another year but am now unsure as to whether it is actually hosted by wordpress. Thanks
