Domain Mapping
-
I already own a domain name. I want to use it with my WordPress blog. Nothing more. I am told that the mapping will cost $13, but when I go to checkout, I am charged $99. I don’t want a Premium plan. I simply want to use my own domain name. How do I go about doing this? (And yes, I am choosing the correct option in the buying process- domain name that I already own.)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
You need a paid WordPress plan to use an existing domain name.
Do you already own a domain name? If you would like to use it here on WordPress.com all you need to do is “map” your existing domain to your site. You will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map a domain. Each paid plan comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain or map one you already own.

With any paid WordPress plan, you’ll have a credit to use your domain (so you won’t have to pay the $13).
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick reply. WordPress has changed, then. I have another site, started several years ago, and for that I pay only $13 per annum for the domain mapping.

Hi emilyaurore,
It’s not essential to buy a plan — the option is suggested because buying a WordPress.com plan will provide you with the option for a free custom domain name or domain mapping if you want to use a domain you already own.
It is possible to buy a Domain Mapping upgrade without purchasing a WordPress.com plan. There are instructions for doing so on this support document:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/#1-add-domain-mapping
Try clearing the items in your cart and working through the steps in that link, just adding the Domain Mapping upgrade.
Let me know how you get on.
