Domain Mapping

Hi, I am trying to map a domain which I own (from Godaddy) to my wordpress.com blog. But when I do so it takes me to a checkout page which is asking me to upgrade to premium plan ($99/year). In the past and on the other blogs that i own I have always purchased domain mapping at $13/year which is what I’d like to for this one as well. Please advise.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi There,
You are correct, if you are mapping your domain for the first time on that particular site you would need to upgrade your plan to either a Premium or Business.

The domain mapping on its own is not available unless you are renewing it from a previous purchase.

Here is a breakdown of the plans if you would like more information:

    Hope this helps,
    Thanks

    Hi,

I always had this domain mapped earlier, for over two years, so not the first time I’m mapping it. Yes when the domain mapping expired and I got a notification to renew I did not, for I wanted to renew at a later time, which is now. And now I’m asked to upgrade when I don’t really require all the other features except domain mapping.

Is there a workaround? Thanks for your help!

  • I can tag staff for you, to see if there is anything they can do, but where it did expire there is definitely no guarantee.
    Thanks

  • Hi folks, we do require plans for new domain mapping upgrades now, however you can use a personal plan, too. Note that comes with direct support as well, and it removes ads from your site. I hope that helps. :)

Thanks for your help! But that’s a shame. I wouldn’t want to pay for features i don’t necessarily require. If 3GB is sufficient for me today, I wouldn’t want to upgrade to 6GB. Ads or no ads, doesn’t matter to me. I should be able to buy just the domain mapping on my free plan. This is rather unfortunate.

  • Thanks for the feedback. While we have grandfathered in existing individual upgrades, they are removed after they’ve been expired for a while. We’ve moved to plans to help keep free sites free, and also to help provide more direct support.
