domain mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, previously – with an older and different account to the one I have now – I have been able to map my domain for $13/yr. Now it seems like I have to upgrade to a premium account in order to be able to do this – having said that, I did come across an option to map a domain for $17/yr but when I tried to select that option it took me straight to upgrading to premium for A$129/yr …??

So my question is: is there a way to map a domain to my WordPress site without upgrading to Premium?

    Cheers,
    Anita

  • Hi Anita –

We do require a plan upgrade for domain mapping. You can do this with WordPress.com Personal for $35.88 / year and it comes with some other features (not just the mapping).

Here’s how you set it up: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

Check it out at wordpress.com/pricing/ and let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi Liz,

Thank you for your response. I am happy to read that I can get the mapping with the personal plan – as I mentioned, anytime I went to map it it kept taking me to the premium option of $129/yr, which is a big jump from when I used to be able to map my domain for $13/yr.

    Thanks again,

    Anita

  • Hi Anita –

I completely understand that is quite a difference in fees. Can you try adding Personal from wordpress.com/pricing/ After you make the payment click on My Sites (upper left corner) and then Domains > Map it.

Let me know how that works out :)

    Hi Liz,

So sorry to take this long to get back to you. Would you believe that I only just mapped my domain this morning?

I had no problems actually mapping the domain and now we already come up in the first page of a Google search – but I have got a confusing problem. Since the mapping, our website has switched to a different version of our WordPress site.

It is difficult to explain but I think it has reverted to a site I must have been working on directly through a WordPress plug in on our IP’s dashboard. All of the pages I have worked on since (by logging in directly into WP) seem to be gone!! Is this something you can help with or do I need to go to our IP?

    Cheers,
    Anita

  • Hi Anita –

Which domain did you map to your WordPress.com account?

  • Right now, on this account, you have resolvedesigns.com.au mapped to resolvedesignsblog.wordpress.com.

https://resolvedesigns.com.au/ is showing a WordPress.com site as it should if mapped here.

I’m not sure I understand the question so more details would be helpful.

    Hi Liz,

This is what is so confusing – the domain and the account appear to be correct, however the account now seems to only show the site I was building months ago – not all of the work I have done since then (specifically in January). In January I switched from Shoreditch to 2017 template and I added a lot of content, including photos to the site and changed it completely and now all of that is gone.

It’s almost as though I have accidentally created two wordpress sites for Resolve Designs…???

Would it be possible for me to check if I have any other WP sites listed against my email address?

  • Good Morning –

I have found a similar site https://resolvedeigns.wordpress.com/ Does that look familiar? You’ll need to sign in to your other WordPress.com user account to access it. Once I hear from you under that account I’ll help get the mapping fixed up to the correct site.

    Hi Liz,

Though that is my other WP account, that is not the site I was working on. Am I able to private message you my email addresses and you can tell me whether I have another account attached to them?

    Thanks,
    Anita

  • Hi Anita –

I’ve emailed the address at wordpress.com/me/account/ for the resolvedesignsadmin account. Please reply directly there.
