domain mapping
-
My friend has been paying for domain mapping but it lapsed in 2015. Her website is hosted on wordpress.com (the free option) and her domain is still pointing at her website ok. I am not sure what the purpose of domain mapping is, as I just point the domain at the webhosting sites nameservers (but I have not had anything hosted on wordpress.com before)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good Morning!
The domain mapping simply tells the internet where to look for a web page. I looked up the domain and this is what i found:
Domain Name: MARY-KENNY.COM
Registrar: TUCOWS DOMAINS INC.
Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 69
Whois Server: whois.tucows.com
Referral URL: http://www.tucowsdomains.com
Name Server: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
Name Server: NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
Name Server: NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
Status: clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited
Status: clientUpdateProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientUpdateProhibited
Updated Date: 24-jun-2016
Creation Date: 13-aug-2003
Expiration Date: 13-aug-2017As you can see, it’s paid up through August, so no worries yet. Here is a great article explaining what they are, how to get and keep them, and oodles of other stuff besides:

Hi there,
That domain is pointed to WordPress.com, as you say, but it also needs a connection on our end to have your WordPress.com site appear at that domain. That connection is created by the domain mapping upgrade.
Without the domain mapping, trying to load the domain will take you to an error page instead of to your WordPress.com site.
To add a new domain mapping upgrade, go to My Site ->Domains ->Add and select the Map It option.
