Domain mapping
-
Hi,
I am thinking of domain mapping a domain name I already own to my blog.
I have read this http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ and understand most of it, though I have to say some of it is quite alien to me. I don’t yet know what Custom DNS records are, but hopefully will understand how to enter new ones as advised!! I understand this is to do with getting email to work.
My question is, do the instructions in the link above cover everything or do I need to be careful about anything else? I really don’t want my blog to stop working properly once I change it over. Will people still be able to search old posts and find them? I am so unconfident about doing this I was thinking of getting someone else to do it for me or possibly creating a whole new blog (bit drastic)!
Any tips advice on this process would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go to your registrar and set the nameservers for your domain name to the wordpress.com nameservers:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMYou will need to wait about a few hours to as many as 12 and then you should be able to go through #2 and #3 under domain mapping as outlined here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain .
Nothing else is required unless you wanted to have an email address (or retain an existing one) for your domain name. In that case, you would have to go through the “geeky” procedure here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/add-email/ . -
Thank you. I’ll give it a go.
Will all previous links with the old address be directed to the new one permanently?
