Domain mapping
-
I set up a site about 3 weeks ago and mapped the domain, which cost $13 (I didn’t have to upgrade from free hosting to do this at the time). I’d made a bit of a mess of it all so decided to start again from scratch and cancelled the domain mapping and started again. When I’ve tried to map the domain to the new site it wants to charge me £85 per yr to upgrade which includes the domain mapping. Have WordPress changed their pricing in the last couple of weeks or is there a way round this as I just want to use the free service but have the domain name I’ve already purchased elsewhere.

Hi there,
Since you canceled the domain mapping option once, the only way of mapping your own domain for you is upgrading to a paid plan. Paying just for mapping the domain is not possible on WordPress.com now.
But it’s good news that you can map your own domain to your site with the Personal Plan. That’s the cheapest way. You don’t need to pay £85 per year. If you want to do it, please purchase the plan first, and next, you can add your own domain at https://wordpress.com/domains/add/mapping/. If you try to map your domain before choosing a plan, WordPress.com leads you to subscribe the Premium plan automatically.
I hope this helps you :) Thanks!!

Hi darnelldibbles
The domain name I want to map to is arthingtonparishcouncil.co.uk – but I have feeling the hacchism is correct. I didn’t realise when I cancelled it that I wouldn’t be able to map it again for only $13
