Domain mapping
-
Hello,
I bought my domain ‘davidmasters.net’ via Google Domains. I then purchased BlueHost as my hosting service, which connected me to WordPress.
However, I cannot figure out to map the domain I purchased through google onto my new Bluehost / WordPress.
After following step 1 in this site (https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/) I have gotten the error ‘Domains are not available for this site. You can only purchase domains for sites hosted on WordPress.com at this time.’
I just want to set up my domain, davidmasters.net, onto wordpress.
Thank you!

Hi,
To use a custom domain you will have to upgrade to a Personal Plan.
You can find more info about the plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/The link in your first post will guide through the process.

Hi davidmastershyland,
It looks like your site is already hosted on Google cloud.
These forums are for sites hosted on WordPress.com. Since your website is self-hosted on Google, you’re looking for WordPress.org. For information on the differences between WordPres.com and WordPress.org, check this support page here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
For WordPress.org support, you can visit https://wordpress.org/support/ and they should be able to help you from there.
If you would like to change hosting, you will need to purchase some of WordPress.com plans here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
Cheers!

@davidmastershyland you are hosting with Bluehost. You don’t need to map your domain name to WordPress.com. Instead, you need to change name servers for your domain name at Google to point these to Bluehost servers.
Since you are using DIY WordPress.org on Bluehost, you can get some help in the support forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
This support channel handles assistance to WordPress.com hosted sites only and the guidance provided here won’t be relevant to you.
As an alternate, you can also contact the support team of your hosting provider to seek help solving your problem.
DIY WordPress.org and WordPress.com are different entities with separate documentation and support forums; more information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi davidmastershyland,
As the other posters mentioned it seems like you are trying to set up a site that isn’t supported by WordPress.com
I did find a page from Google that should walk you through the process of hosting a Google domain at BlueHost. https://support.google.com/domains/troubleshooter/6010937
If that doesn’t work you can look to where Google provides support for their domains. This is their help center.
https://support.google.com/domains#topic=3314003
You can also look to BlueHost for support with hosting. If you are logged into BlueHost you should be able to access this site for support with hosting. https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/628
I hope that helps. As I said, look to the Google and BlueHost help sites for further questions about your domain and hosting.
Sarah
